About

From philosophy to data

I started out studying philosophy, arguing about how we know what we know. Data analytics turned out to be the same question with better evidence.

Philosophy taught me to question assumptions, build an argument step by step, and notice when a conclusion doesn't follow from the evidence. Somewhere along the way I realised I wanted to test ideas against real data, not just against other ideas.

That led me to data analytics and then to an MSc, where my dissertation built demand forecasts and an inventory simulation for a business problem with real stakes.

I still think like a philosopher: the most useful thing an analyst does is ask the right question before reaching for a tool.
